Preschool services to disadvantaged children

History

Akkerdoppies Pre-Primary is a Non-Profit organisation and we opened our doors in 2008 in response to the lack of quality, low-cost pre-schools in the Stellenbosch area.

Initially starting out with only 40 children, we have grown to up to 160 pre-schoolers.  In the course of the past 9 years, our members of staff have expanded from the initial 5 members to 25.  Over this time we have invested in our teachers.  We appointed superb new teachers, as we know we are only as good as our teachers.

We started off with an old rundown building with four rooms,  a neglected kitchen and bathrooms for boys and girls.  Our first step was to repair the building and erect a Wendy House as a classroom for our babies.  We also had to secure and improve the outside play area.  Secondly we built 4 more classrooms as well as a boys- and girls toilets.  We also had to give some attention to shade as the sun can be very unforgiving in Stellenbosch.  Lastly we expanded with another three classrooms;  these classrooms are converted containers and are air-conditioned.
